Softball Recap: Orcas Island Takes a Loss

Orcas Island had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 7-8 to make it four. They fell just short of the La Conner Braves by a score of 10-9. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Braves earlier this season, when they won 18-9.

As for La Conner, they moved to 2-8 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The game was the first time they have beaten Orcas Island on their field since March 29, 2022.

For La Conner's part, Delarosia Souryavong spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aaliyah Gonzalez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jade Souryavong, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Coincidentally, Orcas Island and La Conner will both be playing Darrington the next time they take the field. The Vikings will head out to face the Loggers at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, while the Braves will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
