Basketball Recap: Firebaugh Gets the Win

There's no place like home for Firebaugh, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 34-33 win over the Avenal Buccaneers. The victory was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Firebaugh was led to victory by Emma Serna and Alyanna Garcia. Serna dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Garcia made all 5 shots she took racking up 18 points. Serna is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 17 games she's played. Jennifer Herrera was another key player, putting up a point and seven steals.

Firebaugh smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 11 consecutive games.

Firebaugh's win bumped their record up to 6-19. As for Avenal, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-8.
