Football Game Preview: O'Neill Raiders vs. Spackenkill Spartans + How To Watch

O'Neill is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will head out to square off against the Spackenkill Spartans at 6:00 p.m. O'Neill's defense has only allowed 11.8 points per game this season, so Spackenkill's offense will have their work cut out for them.

O'Neill's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Monticello 33-0. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Raiders just coasted through the last quarter.

Robert Trey Murphy continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 189 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 113 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was AJ Mackey, who threw for 142 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: O'Neill was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 232 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Spackenkill played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Chester-Seward 40-7. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-0.

The victory made it two in a row for O'Neill and bumps their season record up to 3-2. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 18 points in those games. As for Spackenkill, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

O'Neill came up short against Spackenkill when the teams last played back in September of 2024, falling 20-13. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
