The Newton Rams will head out on the road to challenge the Morgan County Bulldogs at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday. Newton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Newton fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Grayson on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of Grayson by a score of 4-3. It was the first time this season that Newton let down their fans at home.

Josh Brown Jr was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Newton saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dare'On Adkins, who scored a run while going 1-for-5.

Meanwhile, Morgan County entered their tilt with Greenbrier on Friday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Wolfpack.

Morgan County's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Newton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-3.

Newton suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Morgan County when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Newton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
