Basketball Recap: Westlake Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against Nazarene Christian Academy on Saturday, Westlake Academy came back down to earth. The Blacksmiths took a 37-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of the First Baptist Saints on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 36-32 on Thursday.

First Baptist's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Laila Batista, who posted seven points and four steals. With that strong performance, Batista is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Kylie Jane Jones was another key player, putting up six points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Westlake Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for First Baptist, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Coming up, after both having extra time off, Westlake Academy and Nazarene Christian Academy will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on December 2. As for First Baptist, they will face off against Coram Deo Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
