Softball Game Preview: Bowdon Red Devils vs. Villa Rica Wildcats

Bowdon hasn't had much luck against Villa Rica recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Red Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Bowdon will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Bowdon is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since September 3rd on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over Chapel Hill.

Villa Rica came out on top against Rome on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 16-run second inning. The Wildcats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wolves an 18-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 12 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Charlee Champion looked comfortable as she tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Parker Harrison was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Sophia Plagemann, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Villa Rica is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Bowdon, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Bowdon suffered a grim 11-4 defeat to Villa Rica when the teams last played back in August. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
