Basketball Game Preview: Gar-Field Red Wolves vs. Hylton Bulldogs + How To Watch

Gar-Field and Hylton are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Red Wolves will be home for the holidays to greet the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Gar-Field has eight straight wins, Hylton has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Gar-Field is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: Potomac Senior, who was ranked 24th at the time (Gar-Field was ranked 14th). The Red Wolves walked away with a 73-61 victory over the Panthers on Tuesday.

JJ Bell had another great game (as he tends to do), almost dropping a double-double with 36 points and nine boards. The contest was his third in a row with at least 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty Moore, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 72-35, which was the final score in Hylton's tilt against Charles J. Colgan on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Hylton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kaleb Swanigan almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Braylen Cole, who had six points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks.

Hylton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Gar-Field, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Gar-Field has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Hylton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Gar-Field was able to grind out a solid victory over Hylton in their previous meeting back in January, winning 71-58. Do the Red Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
