Softball Recap: Denver North Find Success

Denver North proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 11) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out The Academy Wildcats 9-7. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-2 on Friday.

Veronica Loera-Tafoya was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Loera-Tafoya was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Loera-Tafoya wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caidyn Kennedy, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave Kennedy a new career-high. Elina Gutierrez was another, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Denver North hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in six consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Denver North's record now sits at 2-0. As for The Academy, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Denver North will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Aurora Central at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for The Academy, they will challenge Niwot at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
