Football Recap: Wayne County Comes Up Short

Wayne County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They took a 24-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northwest Rankin Cougars. The War Eagles were up 14-0 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

As for Northwest Rankin, they now have a winning record of 2-1. Given their advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Wayne County is ranked 120th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jermany Hayden had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 272 yards and two scores while picking up 13.0 yards per carry. Hayden is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 136 every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was De'Shawn Dillon, who picked up 107 receiving yards and one TD.

Wayne County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 28-21 defeat against George County on the 19th. As for Northwest Rankin, they have also already played their next matchup, a 31-24 loss against Madison Central on the 19th.
