Basketball Game Preview: Monessen Greyhounds vs. West Greene Pioneers

Monessen and West Greene are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2021, but not for long. The Monessen Greyhounds will head out to challenge the West Greene Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Monessen has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 19.

Monessen is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Bishop Canevin on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Monessen was dealt a 65-14 defeat at the hands of Bishop Canevin. The Greyhounds were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-6.

Meanwhile, West Greene was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 36-28 to Cameron. While losing is never fun, the Pioneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 341st in Pennsylvania, while the Dragons are ranked 66th in West Virginia).

Monessen's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for West Greene, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.

Monessen took a serious blow against West Greene when the teams last played on January 2nd, falling 48-14. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of West Greene's Madelyn Roberts, who posted 20 points and three steals.
