Basketball Game Preview: Upper Lake Cougars vs. Middletown Mustangs

Upper Lake is 0-4 against Middletown since December of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Upper Lake Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Middletown Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Upper Lake has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Upper Lake fought the good fight in their overtime game against Lower Lake on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 49-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cougars have suffered since January 23, 2024.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Middletown, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against St. Helena by a score of 43-34 on Friday. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 319th, while the Saints are ranked 711th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Middletown is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Upper Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.

Upper Lake was taken down by Middletown 55-24 in their previous matchup back in January. Can Upper Lake avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
