Preview: Girard Yellowjackets vs. Iroquois Braves
The Girard Yellowjackets will head out on the road to square off against the Iroquois Braves at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 15 consecutive losses dating back to last season for Girard and 11 for Iroquois dating back to last season.
Girard suffered their biggest defeat since December 4, 2023 on Saturday. They had to suffer through a rough 52-24 loss at the hands of Northwestern. While losing is never fun, Girard can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 610th, while Northwestern is ranked 121st).
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 60-20, which was the final score in Iroquois' tilt against Eisenhower on Thursday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Iroquois in their matchups with Eisenhower: they've now lost four in a row.
Girard bumped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.0 points per game. As for Iroquois, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.
Girard came up short against Iroquois in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 33-20. Can Girard avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
