Recap: Downey Vikings vs. Paramount Pirates
After a string of four wins, the Downey Vikings's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 52-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Paramount. Downey has not had much luck with Paramount recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Symantha Barnett, who scored 11 points along with two steals and two blocks. Barnett has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Olivia Vaughn was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals and three blocks.
Downey's loss dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Paramount, they have been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 18 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.
Downey won't have much time to rest: their next game is against El Dorado at 10:30 a.m. on January 20th. El Dorado is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Paramount, they will face off against Warren at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Warren will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 472nd, while Paramount is ranked 53rd).
