Caiden Bietsch got the start for Springfield and what a start it was: he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Bietsch is becoming a predictor of Springfield's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 6-1 (and 6-12 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, Jacob Scheffler and Liam Watts did most of the damage at the plate: Scheffler got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three runs, while Watts went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Edwardsville typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Glenwood proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 5-2. The game was the first time the Titans have beaten the Tigers on their field since May 7, 2022.
Glenwood's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Springfield, their win bumped their record up to 12-13.
