Basketball Recap: Overton Skates Past Axtell with Ease

Overton waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They claimed a resounding 61-29 victory over the Axtell Wildcats. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in February.

Overton was led to victory by Halynn Hughes and Daisy Ryan. Hughes dropped a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards, while Ryan posted 14 points and six steals. Hughes is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 11 games she's played dating back to last season. Kyla Elfgren was another key player, putting up six points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Overton was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Axtell only racked up four.

When it comes to explaining why Axtell lost, don't look at Bristol Thorell. Despite the final result, she had eight points in addition to nine boards and three blocks. Brooklyn Dejonge also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Overton's record now sits at 3-1. As for Axtell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Overton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-36 win against Southern Valley on the 13th. As for Axtell, they have also already played their next matchup, a 53-37 victory against Giltner/Harvard on the 13th.
