Basketball Game Preview: Sierra Timberwolves vs. Atwater Falcons

The Sierra Timberwolves and the Atwater Falcons will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Last Tuesday, Sierra ended up a good deal behind El Capitan and lost 67-50. The Timberwolves haven't had much luck with the Gauchos recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite their loss, Sierra saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Emalina Latu, who went 5 for 7 on her way to 10 points and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Janessa Barnes was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Sierra was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, Atwater entered their tilt with Monterey Trail on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They walked away with a 78-67 win over the Mustangs. The Falcons pushed the score to 62-42 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs cut but never quite recovered from.

Sierra's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Atwater, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.

Sierra was taken down by Atwater 70-36 in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Sierra was down 38-18.
