Baseball Game Preview: Westminster Wildcats vs. Woodward Academy War Eagles

The Westminster Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Woodward Academy War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It was a proper cat-fight when Westminster duked it out with Lovett on Thursday. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Lions 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since April 25, 2024.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Woodward Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against LaGrange on Wednesday. The War Eagles were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Grangers. The War Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.

Woodward Academy got a great performance from Dominic Veneri as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Spencer Norman, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Carson Conners was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Westminster's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-12. As for Woodward Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 18-5 record this season.

Westminster beat Woodward Academy 4-0 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
