If Southwest Guilford was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Ragsdale on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cowboys came up short against the Grimsley Whirlies on Thursday, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Whirlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 back in August.

While Southwest Guilford ultimately came up short, they really made Grimsley work, particularly in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 26-24, 25-13.

Sarah Read paced Southwest Guilford's offense, picking up 14 kills. Read got some help from Isabelle Tran and her 34 assists. Charlotte Bliven controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Morgan Falk was a one-woman wrecking crew For Grimsley. as she had 25 digs and two aces. Falk is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Clark, who had ten digs.

Southwest Guilford's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Grimsley, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 18 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

Southwest Guilford and Grimsley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Cowboys (ranked 157th) will meet Ben L. Smith (ranked 615th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Grimsley will square off against Western Guilford at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (29 vs. 286).
