Softball Recap: Montezuma-Cortez Panthers vs. Durango Demons

Montezuma-Cortez extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-11. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-5 to the Durango Demons, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Demons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-5 two weeks ago.

As for Durango, their record is now 6-3. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

For Durango's part, Abigail Gordon was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Gordon was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August of 2024.

In other batting news, Alexis Wood was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Kaitlyn Downey was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Coming up, Montezuma-Cortez will venture away from home to take on Basalt at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Durango, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Battle Mountain at 3:00 p.m. on the 19th.
