Football Game Preview: Gallup Bengals vs. Wingate Bears

The Gallup Bengals will square off against the Wingate Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Gallup not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since October 4, 2024 (when they won 46-12). They blew past Zuni 32-8.

Gallup got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Truitt Lewis out in front who rushed for 169 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. Lewis also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up 0.5 sacks and making three total tackles. Jayson Bruner was another key player, rushing for 139 yards and two TDs on only 14 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gallup was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 385 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Gallup's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Lewis and Adam Candelaria, who each picked up 0.5 sacks apiece.

Meanwhile, Wingate waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 31-16 victory over the Chieftains.

Gallup's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Wingate, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
