Basketball Recap: Southwestern Academy Takes a Loss

Southwestern Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They took a blow against the Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals, falling 64-4. The matchup marked the Sun's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Southwestern Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Marianne Okwuadi posted two points in addition to six steals, five boards, and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Okwuadi a new career-high.

Southwestern Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Santa Clarita Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.

Southwestern Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on New Covenant Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 27, 2025. Santa Clarita Christian and Castaic will compete for holiday cheer at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
