Basketball Game Preview: Butte Valley Bulldogs vs. Burney Raiders

The Butte Valley Bulldogs will take on the Burney Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

Last Tuesday, Butte Valley took their matchup with ease, bagging a 57-18 victory over Dunsmuir.

It was another big night for Kohen Thomas, who posted 16 points and four steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Khaily Hensley, who had 13 points.

Meanwhile, Burney beat Chester 61-52 on Tuesday.

Burney found their leader in freshman Aaliyah Perez, who shot 6-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 31 points and 11 steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Perez has scored at least a third of Burney's points. Alexis Witzel was another key player, putting up 17 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Burney was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They are 4-1 when they've passed the ball that well.

Burney's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points per game. As for Butte Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.

This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Butte Valley has been crazy accurate this season, having made 61.2% of their field goals per game. It's a different story for Burney, though, as they've only made 28.4% of their shots this season. Given Butte Valley's sizable advantage in that area, Burney will need to find a way to close that gap.
