Football Recap: Garden Plain Skates Past Douglass with Ease

Garden Plain had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past the Douglass Bulldogs 56-14 on Thursday. The Owls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 37 points or more this season.

Garden Plain found their leader in sophomore Braylen Dold, who rushed for 56 yards and two TDs, and also picked up 46 receiving yards and one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Pete McGregor, who gained 37 total yards and two touchdowns.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Garden Plain, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Dold, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Garden Plain didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Hunter Kampling and Dold.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Garden Plain, bringing their record up to 8-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.8 points on average over those games. As for Douglass, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-6.

Coming up, Garden Plain will host Beloit at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Emrick Hays and Joel Rexroat. Douglass does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
