Preview: Kingwood Mustangs vs. Beaumont United Timberwolves
The Kingwood Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Beaumont United Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kingwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 316th, while Beaumont United is ranked tenth).
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Kingwood, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 54-38 loss to Atascocita. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Kingwood in their matchups with Atascocita: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, Beaumont United came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 60-49 win over North Shore.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Beaumont United to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kayde Dotson, who scored 14 points along with five steals. Clarence Payia was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Kingwood's defeat dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Beaumont United, they pushed their record up to 23-1 with that win, which was their 15th straight on the road.
Kingwood was dealt a bruising 66-31 defeat at the hands of Beaumont United when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Kingwood, Trealyn Porchia (who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
