Football Recap: Anna Skates Past Emerson with Ease

Anna won the last time they faced Emerson and things went their way on Friday too. The Coyotes simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Mavericks 56-14. Given the Coyotes' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Mavericks are ranked 198th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Anna's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ziondre Williams led the charge by throwing for 339 yards and four touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes, and also rushing for 38 yards and one TD. That's the most passing yards Williams has posted since back in October of 2024. Another receiver making a difference was Michael Kennedy, who picked up 168 receiving yards and three scores.

Anna's run defense was locked in: Emerson could only muster 2.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Brennan Williams for the heroic effort on defense: he. Anna didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.2.

Anna's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Jaden Parker with two.

Although Emerson took the loss, they still got scores from Jadyn Scott and Dean Waldron.

The victory made it two in a row for Anna and bumps their season record up to 5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points over those games. As for Emerson, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Anna will square off against rival Walnut Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,044 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Emerson is set to take on their familiar foe Lovejoy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
