High school football rankings: Corona Centennial becomes seventh team from California in MaxPreps Top 25

Huskies re-join national rankings as they head into league play riding three-game win streak.

After winning three games in a row following an 0-2 start, Centennial (Corona) became the seventh team from California currently in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings.

Five-star quarterback Husan Longstreet missed their first game of the season for Centennial, a 42-25 loss against No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana), and split time under center in a 31-15 loss against Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita). Since that defeat, Longstreet and the Huskies are 3-0 while piling up 56 points per game. The future Texas A&M signal caller has accounted for 925 yards of total offense and 10 touchdowns during the streak.

Four of the seven teams from the California in the MaxPreps Top 25 are in the Trinity League — No. 1 Mater Dei, No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower), No. 16 Orange Lutheran (Orange) and No. 18 JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano). All four were idle last week as league action begins Friday.

Mater Dei plays at Santa Margarita, St. John Bosco hosts Orange Lutheran,and JSerra Catholic faces an undefeated Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) squad.

Centennial replaces Massillon (Ohio) in the rankings after the Tigers dropped to 4-2 with a 20-14 loss to DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.).

In Texas, Keelon Russell has been phenomenal during the early part of the season for No. 4 Duncanville. The five-star Alabama commit completed 27 of 32 passes for 474 yards and six touchdowns over the weekend in a 63-14 win over Skyline (Dallas). Through four games he has thrown for 1,437 yards and 20 touchdowns while completing 75 percent of his attempts.

Tory Blaylock had a monster game for No. 24 Atascocita (Humble, Texas) last week. The four-star Oklahoma commit had 12 carries for 212 yards and six touchdowns in a 54-7 win over King (Houston). The Eagles have a huge matchup Friday at Summer Creek (Houston), which has outscored its first four opponents 215-0.

No. 3 Milton (Ga.) has two games this week because last week's matchup at Seckinger (Buford) was moved to Monday due to Hurricane Helene. The Eagles have another road contest Friday at Lanier (Sugar Hill).
