Recap: Garfield Bulldogs vs. Huntington Park Spartans
The Garfield Bulldogs won the last time they faced the Huntington Park Spartans, and things went their way on Saturday too. Garfield took down Huntington Park 41-26. Given Garfield's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 307th, while Huntington Park is ranked 731st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Huntington Park saw an underclassman step up: Kandie Chavez scored 11 points. Chavez scored a full 42.3% of Huntington Park's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ingryd Hernandez was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Garfield's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Huntington Park, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Garfield will be playing in front of their home fans against Nogales at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Huntington Park will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against El Rancho at 6:30 p.m. on November 27th. Hopefully El Rancho focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Saturday.
