Basketball Recap: West Valley Sets Scoring Season-High Against Willows

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only West Valley walked away with it. They really took it to the Willows Honkers for the full four quarters, racking up a 75-36 victory. The Eagles' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emily Huddleston, who went 6-for-14 to rack up 17 points and three steals. Huddleston has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rainessa Matthews, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards.

West Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Karla DiMaggio and Ximena Reyes certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. DiMaggio posted 14 points, while Reyes earned 11 points. That was a full 38.9% of Willows' points, marking the fifth time in a row DiMaggio has had more than a third of the team's points.

West Valley is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points over those games. Willows is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-20.

West Valley has already played their next contest, a 51-41 win against Pierce on the 20th. Willows does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
