Basketball Recap: Petaluma Takes a Loss

Petaluma was the 39-37 winner over Rancho Cotate when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Petaluma Trojans took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rancho Cotate Cougars on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 799th, while the Cougars are ranked 393rd).

Daniela Campos continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Rancho Cotate, as she made all 8 shots she took racking up 19 points and three steals. Campos has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Isabella Scardina was another key player, putting up eight points and ten rebounds.

Petaluma is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8. As for Rancho Cotate, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Petaluma will take on Vintage at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Petaluma has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Rancho Cotate and Anderson will round out the year against one another at at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Rancho Cotate is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season.
