Basketball Recap: Surry Central Golden Eagles vs. North Wilkes Vikings

The Surry Central Golden Eagles came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 58-46 win over North Wilkes. Given Surry Central's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Vikings are ranked 391st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Surry Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ayden Wilmoth, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Wilmoth has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last four times he's played. Evan Wall was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Surry Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for North Wilkes, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-9.

Surry Central won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Buckin' Elks at 8:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Elkin is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for North Wilkes, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Blackhawks at 8:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
