Basketball Recap: Mt. Diablo Red Devils vs. Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles
Even though the Mt. Diablo Red Devils have not done well against the Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Mt. Diablo took down the Ugly Eagles 69-54. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Mt. Diablo.
Mt. Diablo was led to victory by Makayla Powell and Natalie Dance. Powell almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds, while Dance shot 5-for-8 from deep and dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Stephanie Zuniga, who scored six points.
Clayton Valley Charter's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ella Scott, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Anjanette Taguinod, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Mt. Diablo has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. As for Clayton Valley Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Diablo will take on the Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Amelia Schrag and Dance. As for Clayton Valley Charter, they will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Alhambra will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 549th, while the Ugly Eagles are ranked 231st).
