Baseball Game Preview: Washington County Golden Hawks vs. Thomson Bulldogs

The Washington County Golden Hawks are taking a road trip to face off against the Thomson Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Washington County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Thomson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Washington County's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Academy for Classical Education hitters got past them. The Golden Hawks fell 11-6 to the Gryphons on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Thomson had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Lincoln County on Wednesday as they made off with a 10-1 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Dalton Gergen made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Tre Lazenby was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Charlie Ducey was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Thomson's record is now 15-7. As for Washington County, their loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-7.

Washington County took their win against Thomson in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 16-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
