Football Recap: Northwest's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Northwest had won two straight games and Jake Brown did his part to make it three on Friday. The Mohawks blew past the Waverly Tigers 59-31 for which the team can thank Brown, who threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes, and also rushed for 100 yards and a pair of scores. He has become a key player for Northwest: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise.

Northwest's leading receiver Austin Smith was Brown's top target yet again, picking up 171 receiving yards and two TDs. Smith really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 78 yards.

Northwest's defensive line made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Ean Marshall, Landon Hodge, and Domenick Stone, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Northwest's record is now 6-3. As for Waverly, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwest will venture away from home to square off against Oak Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mohawks are facing the Oaks at the right time seeing as the Oaks are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Waverly, they are taking a road trip to take on Worthington Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will be up against the Warriors' rather soft defense (which has allowed 29 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
