Basketball Recap: Greta Heath's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Newbury Park over Thousand Oaks

Newbury Park lost against Thousand Oaks back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Newbury Park Panthers lost 78-54 to the Thousand Oaks Lancers. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 285th, while the Lancers are ranked 120th).

Newbury Park lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Greta Heath, who posted 18 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Heath has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Skylar Komatsu, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 14 points and seven boards.

Thousand Oaks' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Seeger, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 17 rebounds. Seeger has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last eight times she's played. Dori Lawrence was another key player, going 5 for 10 en route to 14 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Newbury Park has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-13 record this season. As for Thousand Oaks, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-7.

As of now, neither Newbury Park nor Thousand Oaks have any future games scheduled.
