Volleyball Recap: Jemma Rupert's Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Mecklenburg over Myers Park + How To Watch

After flying high against Garinger on Tuesday, South Mecklenburg came back down to earth. The Sabres lost 3-0 to the Myers Park Mustangs on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in September.

While South Mecklenburg was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Myers Park's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-22.

South Mecklenburg lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jemma Rupert, who had 29 assists and six digs. She has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more assists the last ten times she's played. Sophia Woolman was another key player, getting 14 digs and one assist.

Leading Myers Park to victory were Barrett Lacouture and Vivian Wilson. Lacouture had seven digs and two aces, while Wilson had 26 assists. That's the most assists Wilson has posted since back in August. Elise Bellamy also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

South Mecklenburg's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Myers Park, their win bumped their record up to 13-7.

Coming up, South Mecklenburg will welcome West Mecklenburg at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Myers Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
