Softball Game Preview: Maquoketa Valley Wildcats vs. Edgewood-Colesburg Vikings

The Maquoketa Valley Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Edgewood-Colesburg Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Maquoketa Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Edgewood-Colesburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

It was a proper cat-fight when Maquoketa Valley took on Lisbon on Monday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Lions by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since June 16th.

Meanwhile, Edgewood-Colesburg waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Stars 10-0. Considering the Vikings have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Edgewood-Colesburg's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 29-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Maquoketa Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 21-10.

Maquoketa Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Edgewood-Colesburg in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
