Basketball Recap: Southwest EC Comes Up Short

Southwest EC was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 37-25 to the Holtville Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 37-27 two weeks ago.

Holtville can attribute much of their success to Mallorie Kellum, who posted 11 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Kellum has become a key player for Holtville: the team is 3-1 when she posts at least three steals, but 4-13 otherwise. Hope Nery was another key player, putting up nine points.

Southwest EC's defeat dropped their record down to 3-20. As for Holtville, their victory bumped their record up to 7-14.

Southwest EC wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 56-16 loss against Central on the 5th. As for Holtville, they will challenge Brawley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brawley will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Holtville surely won't give up without a fight.
