Football Recap: La Grange Drops Highest Score of Season Against Giddings

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Grange). They were the clear victors by a 66-40 margin over the Giddings Buffaloes on Friday. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-14.

La Grange got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dillan Johnson out in front who rushed for 120 yards and five touchdowns on only 13 carries. Eli Gillum was another key passer, throwing for 287 yards and three TDs while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt.

La Grange didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Giddings to a completion percentage of just 40%. The Leopards have been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.59 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.59 in their last three games.

La Grange didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Traiton Broussard and Dwodney Thompson. Broussard has been hot recently, having also posted seven or more total tackles the last three times he's played.

Giddings' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Corbin Medack, who threw for 235 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 70 yards and one score. A healthy portion of Medack's aerial production (140 yards to be exact) went to Gunnar Fromme, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

The win made it two in a row for La Grange and bumps their season record up to 5-4. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points over those games. As for Giddings, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

La Grange didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 42-7 defeat against Sealy on the 7th. As for Giddings, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 49-10 loss against Madisonville on the 7th.
