Basketball Game Preview: Klein Bearkats vs. Tomball Cougars

Klein and Tomball are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Klein Bearkats will head out to face off against the Tomball Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Klein is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Klein Collins just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 44-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers.

Meanwhile, Tomball didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Magnolia West on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 49-45 victory. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Mustangs are ranked 836th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Klein better focus on containing Kylee Symons and Danielle Oyakhire as the pair were huge in Tomball's win. Symons posted 11 points and six boards, while Oyakhire almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Oyakhire has posted since back in January of 2024.

Tomball smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Tomball pushed their record up to 19-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Klein, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 23-7.

Klein was able to grind out a solid victory over Tomball in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, winning 40-30. The rematch might be a little tougher for Klein since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
