Basketball Recap: Los Altos Takes a Loss

Los Altos was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 48-39 to the Moreau Catholic Mariners. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 688th, while the Mariners are ranked 169th).

When it comes to explaining why Los Altos lost, don't look at Ella McFarlane. Despite the final result, she posted 28 points. The dominant performance gave McFarlane a new career-high in points.

Moreau Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mahlaysia Atkins, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 13 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Elisa Ortega, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 14 points.

Los Altos' loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Moreau Catholic, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-1.

Los Altos wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-38 defeat against Marin Catholic on the 14th. As for Moreau Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-34 loss against Saint Francis on the 14th.
