Basketball Recap: Argonaut's Run of Five Straight Wins Now Over

After a string of five wins, Argonaut's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They lost to the Union Mine Diamondbacks at home by a 44-29 margin. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-35 back in January.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alayna Critchfield, who posted seven points in addition to 12 rebounds and five steals. Critchfield is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Brynn Begovich was another key player, putting up 11 points along with four steals and four blocks.

Union Mine's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyra Wooden, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydnee Jones, who earned four points and ten boards.

Argonaut's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-10. As for Union Mine, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-12 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Argonaut won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Bradshaw Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Bradshaw Christian: they have been struggling with nine straight losses at home, while Argonaut has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road. As for Union Mine, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against Rosemont at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
