Preview: Marion Center Stingers vs. Purchase Line Red Dragons
Marion Center and Purchase Line are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Marion Center Stingers will head out on the road to face off against the Purchase Line Red Dragons at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Marion Center can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent match on Wednesday. They breezed by Conemaugh Valley on the road to the tune of 56-26. Given Marion Center's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Conemaugh Valley is ranked 608th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Purchase Line scored the most points they've had all season to find success last Friday. They claimed a resounding 66-31 victory over Harmony Area on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Purchase Line has posted yet this season.
It was another big night for Anna Layden, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Brooklyn Syster was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 11 rebounds and four steals.
The win (which was Marion Center's third in a row) raised their record to 13-3. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 35 points. As for Purchase Line, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-8.
Everything came up roses for Marion Center against Purchase Line in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 51-17 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marion Center since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
