Volleyball Recap: Mount Desert Island Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Brewer

Mount Desert Island faced Brewer in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Trojans took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Witches. The Trojans just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Mount Desert Island actually scored more points across those four sets (95-93), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 16-25, 27-25, 25-22.

Janiece Anderson paced Mount Desert Island's offense, picking up 13 kills. Anderson got some help from Thalia Thomas and her 29 assists. Ella Watson controlled things from the service line, finishing with eight aces.

Zoe Drake was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had 12 digs and two assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Carmen Bryant, who had 11 digs.

Mount Desert Island now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Brewer, they pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matches. Mount Desert Island will challenge Ellsworth at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Brewer, they will face off against Hampden at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
