Basketball Recap: Narbonne Gauchos vs. Banning Pilots
The Narbonne Gauchos's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Banning 41-36. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Narbonne of the 42-34 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Banning's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Melony Bernabe, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Bernabe hasn't dropped below three steals for four straight games. Alina Argueta was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three steals.
Narbonne has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Banning, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Narbonne is on the road again on Friday and plays the Lobos at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Rancho Dominguez comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Banning, they will head out on the road to face off against the Panthers at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Gardena will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
