Recap: Merced Bears vs. Central Valley Hawks
The Merced Bears can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent match on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 67-21 win over Central Valley on the road. Given Merced's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 437th, while Central Valley is ranked 1078th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Averie Steverson was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jada Davis, who scored ten points along with five assists and five steals.
Merced's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-10. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 45 points. As for Central Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 15 of their last 16 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-20 record this season.
Coincidentally, Merced and Central Valley will both be playing Atwater the next time they take the court. Central Valley will head out to face Atwater at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, while Merced will host them at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
