Basketball Game Preview: Calipatria Hornets vs. La Quinta Blackhawks

The Calipatria Hornets will be taking part in a tournament against the La Quinta Blackhawks at 8:00 p.m. on Monday.

Calipatria's tournament run continued when they took on Banning on Saturday. Calipatria took a 25-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of Banning.

Meanwhile, La Quinta beat Lakeside 39-28 on Saturday.

La Quinta's win came from a few key players Calipatria will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Leahnette Castro-Galarza, who went 8 for 15 on her way to 18 points and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of La Quinta's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Barrow, who posted five points in addition to eight rebounds, six assists, and six steals.

La Quinta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeside only pulled down six offensive boards.

Calipatria has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for La Quinta, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
