Football Game Preview: Alamogordo Tigers vs. Centennial Hawks

Alamogordo hasn't had much luck against Centennial recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Hawks at 7:00 p.m.

Alamogordo is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Hobbs, who was ranked seventh at the time (Alamogordo was ranked 14th). The Tigers lost 47-26 to the Eagles on Friday. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-7.

Despite the defeat, Alamogordo had strong showings from Bryson Bloom, who rushed for 111 yards and two scores, and Nathanael Best, who rushed for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Centennial waltzed into their matchup last Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 21-20 W against the Cavemen/Cavegirls. Those 21 points were actually the fewest the Hawks have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Alamogordo's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Centennial, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground. Alamogordo has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 270.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 241.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Alamogordo might still be hurting after the 61-35 defeat they got from Centennial when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Tigers, Zaiden Davis (who rushed for 175 yards and four TDs on only five carries, and also threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
