Soccer Game Preview: Valencia vs. Canyon

The Valencia Vikings will head out to take on the Canyon Cowboys at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Valencia took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They never let West Ranch onto the board and left with a 2-0 win.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canyon). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Golden Valley on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Cowboys as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Valencia pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 16 goals over those four contests. As for Canyon, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-7-1 and their overall record up to 3-8-2.

Valencia beat Canyon by a goal when the teams last played on January 7th, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Valencia since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
