While Benicia didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They rang in the new year with a 42-35 victory over the Encinal Jets on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Despite the loss, Encinal still got an impressive performance from Jazzy Alcantar, who posted 14 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Alcantar has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooklynn Lacy, who put up four points and three steals.

Benicia's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Encinal, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benicia will host Northgate at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Encinal, they will challenge Hayward at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
