Baseball Recap: Dodge County Wins Going Away Against Northeast

Dodge County won the last time they faced Northeast and things went their way on Friday too. The Indians put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 12-3 win. Considering the Indians have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kendall Yawn and Landon Sheffield were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Yawn tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Sheffield tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Yawn posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At the plate, Yawn scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Sheffield scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Yawn has become a key player for Dodge County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karson Jones, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Dodge County is undefeated when Jones posts two or more runs, but 4-12 otherwise. Asher Pattillo also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Dodge County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Northeast, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Dodge County will be playing in front of their home fans against Dublin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Fighting Irish will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight. As for Northeast, they are taking a road trip to challenge Baldwin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
